Liechtenstein’s mix of Rhine lowlands and steep alpine slopes makes for an unexpectedly varied set of birding habitats in a very small country. Lowland meadows, river corridors and high mountain crags each support different communities, so even short trips can deliver a wide range of species.
There are 98 Birds of Liechtenstein, ranging from Alpine Accentor to Yellowhammer. For each species you’ll find below the Scientific name, Status, Where found (habitat/sites) to help with identification and planning — you’ll find below.
When is the best time to see Birds of Liechtenstein?
Spring migration (March–May) and autumn passage (August–October) bring the highest species counts; summer is best for alpine breeders like the Alpine Accentor, while winter highlights include resident and valley species such as the Yellowhammer. Use the Status and Where found columns below to match timing to likely locations.
How should I use this list when planning a birding trip?
Start with the Scientific name to avoid confusion, check Status for whether a species is breeding, migratory or rare, and use Where found (habitat/sites) to pick specific spots; combine that with local maps, binoculars and seasonal notes from the list below.
